Big boards are everywhere, and for good reason. Our backyard at San Onofre delivers some of the best glider waves around. In 2020, Icons of Foam winner Michael Arenal helped get us rolling, and from the first rides on the Encore, we were hooked on the speed. Today, shaper Gary Larson takes what we have learned and refines it further with the Camp Host.
Named after our favorite summer big board spot, the Camp Host is built for long, fast rides. Added rocker gives the board versatility without sacrificing speed. Pinched forward rails flow into a forgiving down rail before finishing with a hard edge, getting the board up and flying instantly. A pronounced panel vee starts near the midpoint and amplifies in front of the fin box, making the board easy to swing and surprisingly responsive.
Think gliders are only for small surf? Think again. The Camp Host thrives in waves with size, especially on open faces where you can engage the vee and open up your cutbacks. It is not for everyone, but in the right hands, it unlocks a whole new way to surf.
