endless summer model

Undoubtedly, the world’s introduction to the surf movie genre is Bruce Brown’s epic, The Endless Summer. In an unforgettable tale, Mike Hynson and Robert August tour the globe in a noble pursuit of sun and surf. Both surfers were equally talented, but Hynson was one of Hobie’s prized team riders. A native of San Diego County, Hynson shaped surfboards and was known for his unmistakably cool style. Nearly the same age, Mike was Robert’s perfect counterpart as they welcomed the world to the machine-like rights of Cape St. Francis.
Mike Hynson passed away in 2025, leaving behind an enduring legacy as one of surfing’s true innovators. He is credited with influential designs ranging from the Gordon and Smith Red Fin Model to early noserider concepts and late-’60s downrailers. According to many, including Gerry Lopez, Hynson deserves lasting recognition for his wave-riding contributions. As one of Mike’s early collaborators, Hobie Surfboards is honored to continue the Hynson legacy by offering the model that started it all, now featuring a Hynson stamp on the extra-large Hobie diamond. This board is an excellent rider and highly sought after by collectors. This is your chance to honor surfing’s past and begin your own pursuit of The Endless Summer.
