Fantastic Acid x Velzy Malibu Chip
The surfboards by Velzy crew is stoked to unveil a limited collaboration with Fantastic Acid Surfboards and Tristan Mausse. This collection pays homage to the Iconic Malibu Chip, a revolutionary design from the early '50's that redefined modern surfing. Inspired by the groundbreaking innovations of Matt Kivlin and Joe Quigg, the Malibu Chip marked the transition to lightweight balsa boards, paired with fiberglass and resin--a stark evolution from the hefty redwood planks and hot curls of the pre-war era.
With the support of the Surfing Heritage & Culture Center (SHACC), our team and Tristan had the privelage of drawing insights directly from SHACC co-founder Dick Metz and studying the original curves of Kivlin and Quigg.
This collaboration offers two distinctive boards:
- A clear Quigg outline with a striking mahogany fin.
- A red gloss resin panel Kivlin outline featuring a halfmoon cherry fin.
Both boards are crafted with 10 oz. volan, delivering a ride that echoes the sensational feel of the original balsa.
Our Velzy team couldn't be prouder to present this limited collab. We're already looking forward to workign with Tristan again on his return to the States.
