Hobie Surfboards has always been driven by experimentation. Our shapers are in a constant pursuit of refining the noserider, the midlength, the shortboard, and everything in between. That ongoing exploration led to Project Y. The “Project” reflects Gary Larson and Adam Davenport’s commitment to continually evolving shapes to better suit each surfer. The “Y” pays tribute to legendary inventor Tom Morey, whose influence on surfboard design and ocean innovation still resonates today. We believe Project Y carries that same inventive spirit.

At its core, the Y is our double step deck noserider. It features a noserider style rocker with a generous amount of tail flip in the final two feet of the board. Unlike the smoother deck lines of the Specialist and Stratocruiser, the Y’s steps are clearly defined, giving surfers a more noticeable transition as they move to and from the nose. A blended concave increases lift in the pocket, allowing the board to engage quickly and rise into the curl with ease. The four-stringer balsa glue up adds lightness and flexibility, and every detail is fully customizable. The goal of Project Y is simple, to deliver our best noserider yet.
