If Hobie were an automobile he'd be a Model T Ford, while Velzy would be a Mercury Hot Rod. Alter was groundbreaking and methodical, pioneering early machining jigs and refining polyurethane foam. Velzy, by contrast, was flashy and fearless- a true showman who would do anything to get you on a surfboard TODAY. A prodigious hotdogger, his boards shared more DNA with drag racing than traditional hydrodynamics.
